If you drive long distance in winter or drive often on skidded road keep the box in your trunk put some emergency supplies. Here is a list of things that you might need cell phone, shovel, jumper cables, tow row, sand or salt for traction, flares, blankets, warm clothing, and flash light with extra batteries, drinking water and high proteins foods. Also make sure you have a fully inflated spare tire plus a jack and nut loader, just in case you get flat. Sunglasses are just in the beach but in the winter even more important. Snow glare is the cause of large number of accidents so keep your sun glasses in your car to help you see the road better during winter.

Before you drive on a snowy day clear off as much snow and ice as possible from your windows, hood, lights and roof. So you are more visible to other cars. Besides you don’t want to dump an avalanche of snow or behind the car and cause due to winter. If you have parked outside clear any snow from your car’s exhaust pipe before you start the engine. After all carbon monoxide poisoning can be deadly. If you have a garage your car should be pretty warm already.

But if you like to get a hit before you get into your car just make sure that you open the garage door first and now that your ready to get on the road lets make sure that your safe on your trip if your car has anti lock brakes you might feel the pulse under you when you’re driving on an icy roads. Don’t panic when this happens anti lock brakes are designed to pulse when they engage and they won’t lock hence the name. It might feel strange first but that motion actually helps the brakes to get a better grip on the road.

If your car is skidding you want to steer into the skid this is tough because it goes against all your instincts. But training yourself to think about these steps can help you avoid a crash when you start to skid so here is how you do it easy your foot off the gas and steer in the direction seems to want to go. Keep your head looking at the direction which you want to go. Once your car gets a better grip on the road you can turn your steering wheel to get back on course if you don’t have anti lock brakes try to avoid braking. If you do have AVS break firmly as you turn your steering wheel.

And the winner is just like a fire place with a mug of hot chocolate but it’s not always great for driving. so keep these tips in mind every time you get behind the wheels this winter.
