This is a video by Rich Penn. Today we are going to repair a wiper arm in a case where one arm works and the other arm doesn’t.

A common case for that is in wintertime when you grab the arm to remove the ice and the snow and you strip the arm. First, we need to remove the arm. Some have a cover like this, remove the cover. Underneath will be a 13 mm knot, remove that. Now move the arm up into a vertical position and then pull towards the front of the car. It should come right off. Now once you have the arm off, what you will see is the spline drive from the wiper transmission and what happens is the grooves in the spline tear away the softer aluminum in the arm and the grooves get clogged up with the aluminum.

So what you need to do is get into the grooves and take off the soft aluminum with something like this. Clean all the grooves out, then just replace the arm and in most cases that will just fix the problem.
