Rev up your engines! It’s time for ‘On the road with Scotty’.
Now maybe your garage isn’t big enough for a rocket this size, but it certainly has enough room for this rocket. But American technology didn’t stop in the 1960s. Some people think that the day of the American muscle car has faded into the sunset, but in fact, that day may have just begun. This is a Shelby Cobra GT500, and it comes this way from the factory. It’s not a modified aftermarket car. And what makes it go? The first thing you’re going to see is this supercharger.
A supercharger is a device that compresses air and blows it into the engine so you get more performance. So even though it’s only a 5.4 litre V8, it can put out more than four hundred and fifty horsepower. And the engine’s got some surprises too. There’s double overhead cam with four valves per cylinder and variable valve timing. And that gives you two things. First, you get a very smooth idle, because the variable valve timing allows it to have non radical valve timing when you’re idling so it’s smooth, unlike a race car.
